JW's go door-to-door, preaching things and they are ready to take Bible study. But my Q is Whats behind this?

JW's are well known for their door-to-door preaching, and every one of them are interested to have a bible study. But whats behind this? Do they add people to their Organization or what else?

JW's go door-to-door, preaching things and they are ready to take Bible study. But my Q is Whats behind this?
Each year, Jehovah's Witnesses baptized hundreds of thousands of new Christians. Clearly, their ministry has fruitage (see 1 Cor 3:9).

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Reply:The only thing behind it is Christ's command to do this work. JW's are the only ones accomplishing this work.

Reply:We are proclaiming God's Kingdom as the only hope for mankind. You are either with Jehovah or against him. When Armageddon comes your eternal life will depend on your knowledge of God and of his Son Jesus Christ. John 17:3. Just as in the days of Noah, this group of people that go door to door are sounding the alarm. They are warning the world of the destruction of the wicked soon to take place. You can either listen or not. It is your right. For the person who says that we are not very successful (JBT), we have preached God's Kingdom in the entire world. Few people have been missed by our message. Either they have had direct contact with us or have heard of us. Matthew 24:14 says this message must be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, then the end will come. We have reached the majority of the population. We have distributed the Bible in hundreds of languages. Our literature that tells all about God's Kingdom is published in over 400 languages. Over 2 Billion pieces of literature is printed and distributed worldwide each year. We do this work voluntarily and at no cost to anyone. Either you listen or you don't. We have nothing to join.
Reply:thhey are doing JEHOVAHS woRK. the sooner god is satisfied with the preaching work, god will make the world a paradise with the rightous people to live foreveer
Reply:1. Love for God.

God commands us to tell people about his kingdom.

2. Love for YOU

There is such a wonderful hope put out for all men, if only they would take the necessary steps to receive such blessings. We want to let you know about that, that this terrible, wicked world is not all there is- the best is yet to come!

But we do not seek to recruit people. People DECIDE to join our cause after listening to us. And good for them!
Reply:just like all my brothers and sisters said, love for Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ and love for our neighbor. we do what Jesus Christ commanded at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. our bible studies and all our watchtowers and awakes and books are free. we don't make anyone changed there religion, that is between you and Jehovah God. see what Jehovah Witnesses are all about at www.watchtower.org
Reply:We are following the Bible command to share the Good News of the Bible. Of course, I would love it if everyone I met lived life according to the Bible, however, I realise it is Up to THEM to decide.
Reply:"Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” (Matthew 28: 19, 20)

We are just doing what Jesus commanded.

It's up to the person we teach, if they want to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Actually one of the requirements in becoming baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses is that you have to have the desire to want to become one. And also have a basic knowledge of the Bible.

Anyways, there's no point in forcing someone to convert to a religion. They can just leave the religion later on....so there's no point and plus it's wasting time. If you don't desire to become one then don't....your just wasting our time and yours.

There's other people who desire to become one. But if you have a change a heart, than we'll help you.

We only reach those who are interested and want to.

"Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead." (James 2:26)

True we need faith, but it's more than believing, we have to put that belief in action.

Also JBT didn't put where in the Bible he quoted from.

Not stating the source makes the argument less effective.

He's lacking ethos, or in other words his credibility.

I should know this since I'm in a rhetorical analysis class for English.
Reply:We do this because Jesus commanded us to preach.

Matt. 24:14: And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

Matt.28:19,20: Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

1 Peter 2:21 says: 21 In fact, to this [course] YOU were called, because even Christ suffered for YOU, leaving YOU a model for YOU to follow his steps closely.

We also want to give people hope for the future.

Ps.37:9, 10,11: For evildoers themselves will be cut off,

But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Rev.21:3,4: With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Additional Details: Contrary to what JBT has said, we do not have to do 5 hours a week. Some people have poor health or work long hours and are not able to reach those kinds of hours. This doesn't make them less than anyone else who is able to do more in the preaching work. Also, the preaching work is very effective. Worldwide there are some 6mil Bible studies being conducted.
Reply:CHRISTIANS obey the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the one who gave the command to preach in all the world.

Jesus and his apostles did that preaching by visiting people at their homes. We find that method to still be effective today.

We don't just talk about Jesus, we obey him.
Reply:As CHRISTIANS we are commanded to “make disciples of people of all the nations,” but this does not mean that they are to use pressure or convert others by force. Jesus’ commission was to “tell good news to the meek ones,” to “bind up the brokenhearted,” to “comfort all the mourning ones.” (Matthew 28:19; Isaiah 61:1, 2; Luke 4:18, 19) We seek to do this by declaring the good news from the Bible. Like the prophet Ezekiel of old, Jehovah’s Witnesses today try to find those who “are sighing and groaning over all the detestable things that are being done.”—Ezekiel 9:4.

The best-known way we do this is by trying to find those who are distressed by present conditions is by going from house to house. So we make a positive effort to reach the public, just as Jesus did when “he went journeying from city to city and from village to village, preaching and declaring the good news of the kingdom of God.” His early disciples did likewise. (Luke 8:1; 9:1-6; 10:1-9) Today, where it is possible, we try to call at each home several times a year, seeking to converse with the householder for a few minutes on some local or world topic of interest or concern. A scripture or two may be offered for consideration, and if the householder shows interest, then we may arrange to call back at a convenient time for further discussion. Bibles and literature explaining the Bible are made available, and if the householder desires, a home Bible study is conducted free of charge. Millions of these helpful Bible studies are conducted regularly with individuals and families throughout the world.

All of our meetings are free and open to the public. No collections are ever taken. Such meetings are beneficial for all. The Bible says: “We ought to see how each of us may best arouse others to love and active

goodness, not staying away from our meetings, as some do, but rather encouraging one another, all the more because you see the Day drawing near.” Private study and research are necessary, but meeting with others is stimulating: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens the wits of another.”—Hebrews 10:24, 25; Proverbs 27:17, The New English Bible.

So we try to recommend the good news to others in this way also: by being exemplary in the Christian conduct that they recommend to others. They try to ‘do unto others as they would have others do unto them.’ (Matthew 7:12) We try to be this way with all men, not just with fellow Witnesses, friends, neighbors, or relatives. Being imperfect, we do not always succeed 100 percent. But it is the desire of their hearts to do good unto all people not only in telling them the good news of the Kingdom but also in extending a helping hand whenever possible.—James 2:14-17.
Reply:The places in the Bible where Jesus commanded this work be done by door to door means are:

Matthew 10:11And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

Luke 94And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.

5And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

6And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

Acts 20:20, 21

20And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 5:42

42And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Rev. 3:19, 20

19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Jesus is not personally knocking on all doors, but he did command his followers to do it and to do it all the days until the end of the system of things. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8......Matthew 24:14.

It doesn't make money and is beneath the dignity of most preachers to do this work. Even most of the door to door religions only ask people to do it briefly if they want to be leaders, or to get baptized or to do a specific short time of service like 2 years. For us, our service to God is all our lives.

We KNOW you cannot earn salvation. That is not why we do it. Eph. 2:8, 9 has the same content in NWT as all other Bibles.

But it is a command and God only gives eternal life to those who obey his commands. Hebrews 5:8, 9, Matthew 5:19, 20, 2. Cor. 5:15, Philip. 1:29, more.

Reply:It is a direct command from Jesus. He said..go therefore and make disciples.

He sent out his disciples 2by 2 to go to different places and told them to stay until the people had a good understanding.

That's why we keep coming back. So that you will have that understanding.

We are obeying Jesus.
Reply:Matthew 24:14 “And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.”

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.””
Reply:short and to the point:

They follow Matthew 24:14 in which it states to preach the word of God to everyone.

And those that are interested then get free bible studies without any obligations, because the JWs also follow Matthew 28:19,20, where it says about making disciples.

So those people who get the Bible studies and respond favorably join their organization.
Reply:It is the greatest example of living like Jesus did. Jesus went about teaching people about his Father, Jehovah. His witnesses just wish to share with everyone the wonderful hope for paradise earth so everyone can be informed to truly make their own decision :-) It's about Love of fellowman.
Reply:Our Great God Jehovah gave every one of us a choice to either follow him or not.

We offer an informed choice.

Jehovah's Witnesses can offer you a book with the basic outline of all religions. How can you choose if you do not know all of the options?
Reply:they just want to teach people about the bible. that's it
Reply:As mentioned, they're just giving the facts about the bible.
Reply:They want your time, your money and your vote. Sorry, just my opinion, but don't trust any religious door knockers. I am polite, but I have to shut the door swiftly since polite often is not enough

Edit: See touchy lot, have a different view and you get canned. I don't need bible ppl knocking on my door, if they know its so ineffective why not look to other works to fulfill their chosen and accepted commitment. How many hungry children need feeding, and I am just speaking of the western world to all our shame. Eh I know I am speaking to the wind. sorry, now I am preaching, I said they should have shot me, but no, let me start preaching instead, geezz

Ah, the withered olive branch, this I know well!
Reply:Actually, they won't tell you this, but their door to door canvassing is not very effective.

But they don't care. They're performing a work that they're required to do by their church. I don't understand why that is, because the Bible says "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast"

They're expected to spend five hours per week doing this, and while it's not compulsory, it's clearly expected that all members follow this guideline.

This behavior would seem to contradict the Bible's view on faith vs. works.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not the only belief system to go out and evangelize, (in fact, I've do it myself), but they're the only ones who somehow believe that Christ's teaching to make new disciples somehow meant that it had to be done door to door, and they're the only system of belief to enforce compliance with engaging in this task.
