For those looking to join a Bible study, what do you hope to gain?

I've participated in a few and know what I look for in a Bible study, but I'm curious to know what exactly draws YOU to join a Bible study. Thanks in advance for answering.

For those looking to join a Bible study, what do you hope to gain?
The bottom line should be to gain a closer walk with God as a result of a Bible study you might choose to join.

Having people there with whom you enjoy spending time, intellectual growth and having interesting topics are nice but have to be viewed as secondary goals.
Reply:honest questioning, leading to more light. And fellowship.
Reply:I am drawn to a group if the members are honest and open with their discussions, I enjoy sharing and hearing other peoples understanding of different scriptures. I also look for groups that are focusing on a particular subject of study that I am interested in. I feel that I grow as a christian by learning and understanding more of the Bible. No matter how long or how much I study, there always seems to be someone in the group who will share something God revealed to them about a scripture that will answer a question for me and help me.
Reply:Fellowship.
Reply:All of the above.
Reply:interesting topics....havent done that since 10 yrs ago...i have alot of literature here
Reply:I look for a study that goes deep into the Bible and answer and questions are welcomed.I like it when we can give examples of how or why the particular scripture could affect us.
Reply:I do it for the chicks.
Reply:I would look for mature believers.
Reply:fellowship with like minded people.
Reply:The Lord always guides me into those Himself; it always turns out to be just what I needed spiritually.
Reply:Common interests, such as other moms who work outside the home.

I also look at the topics we will be studying.

I also prefer open ended discussion questions. I have been in Bible Studies where there is only one correct answer or it involves fill in the blank questions, such as completing the words to a Bible verse. For me, those only teach me the author's point of view.

Also, the Bible study has to meet at a location and time where I can meet.

As a working mom, it's also nice if there is child care available :)
Reply:It would depend upon the study, I am Drawn to Spiritual Warfare, Sharing your faith and Apologetics.

I hope to gain by all this is of Course Knowledge, But Head Knowledge is not enough, I would also need Spiritual closeness, It is one thing to know how to do something, but to put in practice what you have learned
Reply:all of the above
Reply:I like it when you can have open discussion, not just a lecture situation.
