Why do some christians expect everyone to "study" the bible, when they're not prepared to study science?

Science privudes a rational and logical explanation.

Religion offers an emotional response to questions, many of which don't even need to be asked (eg: "why are here?")

Also, the bible is just one of many religious texts. All of which claim to be the yet contradict each other.

In science, people compare their evidence and follow the path that can be best supported by factual evidence.

Dosn't it make more sense to study science than a discredited religious text?

When you've read enough of a book to realise it's contradictory and full of ridiculous falsehoods (eg: Genesis, Exodus.....and the whole thing really), why would you want to read another thousand or so pages, yet alone STUDY it?

Do they want us to read it just to keep us to busy to follow what's happening in the scientific community?

Why do some christians expect everyone to "study" the bible, when they're not prepared to study science?
Well, I guess it makes sense to study both as they come in handy at different times for different things. There can be a balance in our lives if we are educated enough. Good question for a monkey - I mean primate, sorry : P
Reply:why is it that folks who pride themselves on their 'rational and logical' thinking can't seem to ask a question about Christians without resorting to baseless generalization, insult, and false assumptions?

FACT: Christians DO study science-we just don't treat it as a religion...and we are bright enough and mature enough to understand that science is extremely useful in explaining 'how', but totally useless in explaining 'why'...the former is no more than 'nuts and bolts', the latter is the basis for all the things that truly matter in human experience...
Reply:Not "everyone"

but to those of you who insist you know enough to bash our faith in God, its hard to tolerate all the misquotes.
Reply:Generalize much? There are plenty of us Christians who study both our Bibles and the latest scientific developments. We don't deny one in favor of the other, and we're willing to consider all the possibilities.

What I find strange is the insistence that science is the be-all, end-all road to wisdom. The fact is that most scientific theories are like socks: they are changed often because they need to be. Today's scientific "fact" is often tomorrow's "What were we thinking when we said that?"

Yes, there are many religious texts, but guess what? That doesn't mean that they're all equally valid or true. The Bible is many things, but it has never been "discredited" to those who study it and know what it actually says. And most of what you call falsehoods and contradictions can be cleared up by understanding things like the social and cultural mileu of Biblical times and the languages in which the Bible was written.

So before you completely dismiss the Bible, why not study it with the same open-mindedness that you urge us to read scientific journals? Or are you worried that your alleged wisdom and logic may not stand up to reality when seen in the light of God's Holy Word?
Reply:Sorry, but science has so many flaws that you shoud not let it be the final say in your life. Just the other day ther was a great debate about whether the big bang realy did occur after all. Even the scientists disagree and have lots of doubts about things. Scientists really don't know as much as they claim.
Reply:WE try to stay away from weird sciience, Monkeymen , string theory and such.
Reply:Yeah but learnin' science is HARD an' learnin' religion just means you have to have someone tell you what the bible says and then you repeat it like a parrot, n' such.
Reply:I'm sorry but science is not supposed to accept anything that can not be proved. If an experiment in a lab cannot show the same results on repeated attempts, then the original hypothesis is faulty.

Science has never been able to provide any "proof" that out of a very violent explosion, that an incredibly complex, orderly and highly organized universe came into being. When they dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, did a new universe with a new solar system and a new population of animals, people, birds, insects, etc. get formed?

Science itself is good and very helpful in many ways but there are certain people within it that promote only their own views - theories that cannot be scientifically proven about the creation of the universe and mankind.

I don't know about you, but I "had" to take science courses throughout elementary and secondary school. I did enjoy some of them and learned some very helpful things. I "had" to "agree" with the theories that were presented to me if I wanted to get good marks. I did not have ANY religion classes offered, even as an option, to me.

I think it would be good for anyone to study different religious texts, not just one so that you can compare them rather than just blindly accept what you're told.

The Bible is an incredible set of writings that have throughout the ages enthralled and inspired even some of the world's greatest scientists.

Christians want you to read the Bible in the hope that you will accept God's Son's free gift of eternal life.
Reply:what makes you think christians dont study science--there are many christian scientists. my best friends father is a christian scientist-- in fact im sure alot of christians kn ow more about science than you(including me)
Reply:Science is very interesting. So is the Bible. Both are worth

your time. Unless of course you'd rather go to the pool hall.

I Cr 13;8a
Reply:Why read mans opinion of something he is just guessing at? Million and billions of years- what a joke. How did nothing become something? Another joke. Explain the beginning- if you can do that scientifically that would be a first. The scriptures are only discredited by those who care not about God. Why are there all these species? Why isn't there a mixture of everything in all species? Oh and where is the "missing link?"
Reply:Science has not proven anything! I have studied science - science means knowledge, and the stuff they are pushing in your so called science text books is hogwash. There is no working models for evolution. There is no working theories, working meaning you can test your "theory" that is the only way to make it a "theory" if it is testable or not, otherwise it is just a "hypothesis" which is the basis for "hypothetical statements". The books of Genesis and Exodus have been proven to be accurate historical evidence. yet if you dont believe in the Word of God why you here in the first place?
Reply:The bible, koran, and other religious texts were written before anyone had any real knowledge of the world that science provides. The pro bible, anti-science, people of today want to go back to that world. I wonder if any will answer you.

I was wrong. The religious parrots are answering.
Reply:I don't expect those that aren't Christians to study the bible. I do expect those that quote verses / scriptures from the bible to at least quote it accurately and in the context that it was written. However Christians should read and study the bible. It says to study to show yourselves approved.
Reply:There's even more to it than that - they not only want you to study it, they want you to come to the same exact conclusions that THEY believe in. Some of the information in the Bible IS accurate because archaeology backs it up, but archaeology also proves that a lot of it is not accurate. If you really are going to study the Bible it should be because you are interested in ancient literature.
Reply:Science provides hypothesis, they rewrite the science books every year. Their proofs change rapidly, their hypothesis are never the same. When science has some definate proof to back up their claims, then I can fully believe science.

Creation beliefs have been the same over and over and over. Hmmm........
Reply:I don't know what school you went to, but I was required to study basic science, and by high school we were definitely beyond the basics. If you will bother looking up stats instead of spouting someone's 1930's language for your diatribe, you would find that the scientists are the fastest growing group of believers of any profession. Why? Because the more they learn, the more they realize how utterly ridiculous they were to think we got here without an intelligent Creator. Another group with many converts are archaeologists. The deeper they dig, the more confirmation of the truth of scripture they uncover.
Reply:Because a Science book will not show me the way to salvation, nor guide me in the right direction.

`
Reply:Science is a study of how God did things. Things were here before science. The bible offer scientist evident on where to look, and what to look for. Without God's creation science would not exist.

And still there is so much more to know, how the nerve system work and how the body use vitamin. The bible is about God and His love for mankind.
Reply:I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! (Ecclesiastes 1:13) As you can see God wants you to study.
Reply:Religion cloudeth the mind of man! But relationship lives within and lasts forever!
Reply:Think that one over please. OK. Have we found out what was very wrong with that question? It seems like a really big generalization to me. Many Christians don't study Scientific Theory's in-depth but not all. I enjoy learning more about what others believe though I'm not going to change my thinking on what the Truth tells me. The question is, What are our community's so afraid of that they will allow Theory's of Sciences in the class rooms but not Christianity or other faith bast believes (that is what most of Science IS, things you can't prove). I hope this response did not come off as an attack but I just wanted to show you the other side of the argument.

OK. I have something to add, What are you exactly saying is contradicting it's self in the Bible? Please inform me on what this big mix-mach statement is. Also please explain how you could say that science does NOT contradict it's self (as many others have wonderfully stated) science is changing almost every day! When all you have is Theory's things tend to change. I understand how its SO hard to have faith in something you can't see but what would you call science? If it's all in Theory's then what can you see of Science anyway?

I'll be praying NOT that you will just study the Bible but come to an understanding why you should read the Bible, but I know that man has free will.

Sincerely, a Praying Sister in Christ.

(to tell me where there is ambiguity in the Bible IM me at -

Reply:in public school teach science so i guess they do
Reply:Many Christians are scientist.
Reply:Priorities. Going to heaven or learning science.[man's limited knowledge]
Reply:The Bible is true, you can't understand it because you're not saved, only saved people can understand the Bible.
