Why isn't sex mentioned in the study bible?

I was just given the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible and was looking up topics in the concordance in the back. I looked for anything relating to sex to find out where it is spoken about in the bible, but it is mentioned nowhere in the concordance - except in relation to adultery. They don't even have a topic for homosexuality, which is definitely in the bible. Why is this?

Why isn't sex mentioned in the study bible?
ur just looking up the wrong words ... try fornicate ...
Reply:The Bible mentions sex very often. Most "commentators" won't do it, because they're prudes. God is not a prude. People are.
Reply:Unfortunately, in both the Original Testament and the newer testaments, innuendo is used quite a bit.

It just compounds the confusion about the meaning of many verses. Once you include the innuendo, translations from several different languages including ancient and dead languages, the gathering of several books, the oral traditions that were not written down (at least at the time), the confusion over which laws were temporary, the confusion over which stories were metaphor, 2000+ years of interpretation, etc, etc. it is amazing that anyone can agree on anything.

What did Noah's son do to him (or his wife) while Noah was drunk?

When is the proper translation of one passage "rape" but another is consensual between the couple but without the parents consent?

When, if ever, did non-procreative sex (ALL intimacy not done in the "missionary position" specifically to have babies) become quietly acceptable as long as it was done by a married couple? Is it still a sin to do anything else?
Reply:That is a great question would like to know also myself
Reply:Sweep it under the rug. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.
Reply:Denial is the key to salvation.

Is it right for the government to deny gay rights when they do it on terms of religion? Who knows! Just deny it. Most likely if there was a response in the book you speak of there would only be a answer that is slightly above preposterous. Not knocking religion, its just easier to avoid a subject then figure out a response. Without knowing the series that would be my simple idea. It would be better to read the real bible tho, something edited over and over yet more complete than a interpretation or study-bible.
Reply:I don't know, but I'd scrap that study bible and do your research here:

Reply:Look in Leviticus
Reply:Two possible answers to your question. The most obvious is the times in which Rev. Thompson lived. People in the 19th century would probably have found both topics offensive. Secondly, the Bible doesn't contain either the word "sex" or "homosexuality." Since Thompson is a topical reference Bible, and -- well let's face it -- sex is not really a Biblical "topic, the chain reference would have contained references to things related to sex with more familiar terms."

People got married and had children. That was basically it. Wherever people deviated from this norm it was reported as "lust," "immorality" "fornication," and so forth. Even in the few places where it talks about a husband having sex with his wife -- as with Jacob -- it speaks in encoded language: Jacob took his wife to his tent and he "knew her."

Simple answer is you should begin your search for topics with the BIBLE part of your "Thompson's" not the reference part. Find verses that you know to talk about something related to sex or homosexuality, and look at the reference chain in the margin, to see what topics Thompson used in each instance.

I would be glad to talk further offline, if you wish, rjohns80 at hotmail dot com
Reply:Why, are you looking for a loophole???
Reply:The bible refers to sex as things like Adam "knew" Eve and she conceived. (Genesis 4:1) You might search the term "know" as when the people in Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to "know" the angels of the Lord. It didn't mean that they wanted to say hello and meet them it meant that they wanted to have sex with them. (Genesis 19:5)
Reply:Sex equals fun and Christians can't allow fun.
Reply:Well, how old of a person is the bible meant for? Maybe they didn't include it if it's for a child so they would look in the back and it says "sex" and the kid is like HAHAHAHAH "sex"....

It's in there, it may just not be in the index. Get an adult book, maybe you'll find it then.
Reply:Why isn't it mentioned that the christian god likes blood scrifices....ot...new testament...its the blood of Jesus....the christian cult god also is into incest as it was the best plan he could come up with to populate the world, he has talking animals too...very strange cult!
