Leading bible study?

We go through passages of scripture, and ask the following questions:

-what does this passage say about God

-are there any promises

-are there any commands

-are there any examples to follow or avoid

We kept the same format as our last bible study, and are looking for different ways to encourage discussion and analysis of passage.

Do you have any other questions/acronyms/helpful tools to do this?

Leading bible study?
Who wrote this book and when?

Who were they writing it for and why?

How would the people in that day have understood this book?

What situation was the author addressing?

Is there a lesson of value in this for us today?
Reply:Questions such as "What does this passage really say when we remove the obfuscating ecclesiastical language?" and "How biased is the interpretation of this passage I have been taught?" would be most useful.
Reply:When I led a Bible study, I usually went with the topic study and Scriptures supporting that topic. Another thing to do is ask the group what they would like to study on the next meeting and ask them to find two Scriptures supporting their belief. Then make studies on one person's group of Scriptures.

Since I like to study from the Hebrew/Greek, this makes the group more "in depth" at times, but I find more people who are diligent in the Word love to dig deep.

One lady grew so much in our group many people were "overwhelmed" with her change.
Reply:One excellent topic is - are you really a Christian? That usually gets everybody going including leaders. And it's amazing how many in the group are not. Bible study certainly becomes more focused.

Oh - what is a Christian? a person who believes that Jesus Christ is God, that he resurrected from the dead (and is therefore alive today - Romans 10:9) and was born of a virgin (indicating his sinless nature). As a consequence such a person has the indwelling Holy Spirit [Romans 8:9].
Reply:-Is this passage logical?

-Does it in any way contradict any passage we have studied previously?

-Does God show mercy and compassion or is he a bit harsh?

-Are we being honest with our-self in our assessment of this passage?

-Does this passage hold up to scrutiny and sound logical?
Reply:Scripture (read it

O (forgot what it stands for but basically its a summary)
