My friend and I had a heart to heart and we would love to find a Bible study that focuses on healthy living and good self esteem and stuff. We don't want anything weird. We just want something that will help us realize and claim God's promises to help bring us out of the little pit we're in emotionally, caused by low self esteem from being overweight. I don't know if there's anything out there like that, but if you know of anything, holla. Thanks.
Have you ever done a Bible study that dealt with self esteem or weight loss?
here is a verse that should help. after reading this verse , if your heart is in the right place , i don't know how any one could feel bad about their self. read john 3:16. if this doesn't show you your worth , check your heart.
Reply:Here are some of the verses I give to counselees to help them see themselves and their worth through God's eyes.
In Christ Jesus I am secure, I belong!
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 2 But the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Rom 8:31 What, then, can we say about all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
2Co 1:21 Now He who establishes us together with you in Christ and who has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us, and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
Col 3:3 For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.
Phi 1:6 having been persuaded of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus;
Phi 3:20 For our citizenship exists in heaven, from which also we eagerly await for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
2Ti 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Heb 4:16 Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1Jo 5:18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not continue to sin, but the one born of God guards himself, and the evil one does not touch him.
I am significant, I matter
Mat 5:113 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; because apart from Me you can do nothing.
Joh 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you may ask the Father in My name He may give to you.
Act 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
1Co 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and who gave to us the ministry of this reconciliation,
2Co 6:1 And working together with Him, we also urge that you not receive the grace of God in vain.
Eph 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and seated us together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,
Eph 2:10 For we are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Eph 3:12 in whom we have the boldness and the access with confidence through faith in Him.
Phi 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Reply:Self esteem, yes. Weight loss, no.
The concept of being made in the image and likeness of God is definitely good for one's self esteem.
Also if we are to love our neighbor as ourselves, then it is inferred that we are to love ourselves.
With love in Christ.
