Help writing a bible study lesson?
Here is a lesson:

Do not teach a Bible study if you are not going to be responsible or knowledgable enough to guide those who are depending on you.

Do something else.
Reply:Check out the website below, thanks!
Reply:Most people would focus on our decision for Christ...so let's go down a different road and end up there.

Many people decide to seek the "Christ" of their own devices and/or emottions and end up on the wrong path. Let's look at some examples in Scripture.

1) The path of worshiping men and their works

John 2:23-25

Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.

Jesus did not want men to worhip Him as a gifted or spiritual man. He came to glorify the Father and save us. It seems odd that Jesus refused some who wanted to follow Him. We have to understand that they were following Him for the wrong reasons...they were mesmerized by a man who could do miracles instead of the source of the miracles. They made a decision for Christ for the wrong reasons and He rejected them.

Reflect on this and write some questions about this topic that get people talking.

Then go to Matthew 9:1-8

Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”

Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins....” Then he said to the paralytic, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” And the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men.

Note again that when Jesus proclaimed that the man's sin was forgiven (only the most profound miracle of all time), there is no mention of amazemnet or awe...in fact quite the contrary, the teachers of the law were actually judging Him.

But then when the man walked away, everyone was amazed and praised God.

Questions....what does this say about us and our reasons for seeking Christ? if you word a few probing questions about this one, you should have five minutes of spirited discussion. The good news is that the "Matthew 9" group was in awe of God giving this power to a man...even though they were not amazed at forgiveness being granted to the man.

Now go to the thief on the cross - Luke 23:32-43

Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals–one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”

The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

There was a written notice above him, which read: This is the King of the Jews.

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don't you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. ”

Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

OK...this is the clincher.

One thief said save yourself and us...prove you are God...or paraphrased loosely, get get yourself and me down from here and I will be amazed and worship you. This thief was focusing on temporal blessings.

The second thief did not care for blessings in this world. Instead he was concerned about eternity. He humbled himself and called out to Jesus as Lord...not to get down from the cross (pracitcal application for us today...not to make this life better...fill in the blanks how you want to...approach this...), NO this thief wanted to be with Jesus forever and rightly identified Him as Lord of the Kingdom.

Jesus answered his desire and gave Himself over to the thief....I tell you the truth, today !!!

You might want to talk about Jesus and the two thiefs being a snapshot of the entire human race. Those who seek a god or spirits based on temporal blessings even if they call their god Christ will not receive Jesus. Those hwo want tobe with Him forever get the blessing of eternity so that this world doesn't really matter that much anymore.

Decisions decisions...good luck.

I typed this fast so excuse the typos and ask any questions that you like...I will try to answer them before Tuesday.
