Good Christian bible study materials?

Hi, I'm looking out for good Christian bible study materials. Be interested to hear what you recommend.





I'm looking at the NIV study bible at the moment, which does look promising. (I'm looking for something which provides some historical insights into the culture etc, something which helps you know about the writers and context it was written in, something that helps you know how to study and interpret the bible effectively).

I use a





Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible





Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary-this calls it self a dictionary but it is more like an encyclopedia. and it is cross referenced to major translations KJV,NKJV,NASB,NIV,NRSV,REB





I also use a King James Bible (KJV), the other translations lost a lot of meaning and left out some scriptures.





A lot of people recommend a Thompson Chain Reference study Bible.





You should be able to find these at any Christian book store.
Reply:Try the Life Application Study Bible (NIV) by Tyndale. This is an excellent resource. It has great study notes, maps, histories, profiles of key people in the Bible...p.s. I also like the Amplified Bible, i got mine at a Joyce Meyers conference, but it can be purchased at any good book store...peace Soulsista

Reply:The English Standard version of The Bible, published by Collins, is one of the latest, with many respected contributors from different backgrounds. It also reads beautifully. The German theologist Bultmann is well worth a read too. That goes back a bit, but he is still very well respected by people who know a great deal more than I do.
Reply:out dated stuff is not good for todays studies.
