Bible Study?

Ok so we are starting this Bible study with a group of friends and we are all a little rusty. I myself have not read a scripture outside of church in about oh... 3 years. We are witnessing to a new Christian couple and we do not want to scare them away with what we are studying. We want to make a smooth takeoff and not dive into something like Revelations or speaking in tongues. Any suggestions on which topics we can start on? Any books come to mind as well? I think it would be easier to follow a book than try to put something together ourselves. Thanks.

Bible Study?
Try the book "What Does the Bible Really Teach?". It discusses topics like:

1. Who is God and Jesus Christ?

2. The Ransom- God's greatest Gift

3. What is God's kingdom?

4. Why does God allow sufferings?

5. Living in a way that pleases God...

and many more.

Each topic discussion contains Scriptures where the messages and ideas are taken from. These are simple discussions with a lot of visual and written illustrations.

Easy to understand book which contains basic Bible teachings!

You may email me and i would then give you an electronic copy.

Loving Christian greetings!
Reply:hello,

yes,ephesians6:10-18.this is a nice starting point to a good long study on spiritual warfare.

in order to fight the enemy, the lord has given us certain tools for our battles.

some further references to this study are...romans13:12,2corinthians6:7

isaiah11:5

luke12:35

1peter1:13

isaiah52:7

1thessalonians5:8

romans10:15

1john5:4

that ought to keep you busy a while.i have more references too,if you need more.

the enmy never rests, and he and his demons are practically ubiquitous.how we take and use the lords knowledge, and also wear the armor, will determine how these battles will play out.
Reply:I'd start in Matthew myself. Seems a logical place for a new Christian to start, and there's nothing to.........scary in there. However avoidance of certain things because they might be scary isn't really suggested.

Matthew is a good place, parables give you a lot of "talking" time.
Reply:I would be glad to send you some material for free. And I appreciate your good attitude!

I like the way Philip taught the Ethiopian Eunuch. Acts 8:34 says "Then Philip opened his mouth and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus."
Reply:James is a fairly simple book to follow. The Gospels, Matt, Mark, Luke, John would also be easier to follow. You should consider spending time reading and praying so that you can learn more and be more in tune with God.
Reply:One of my groups is going through a study series put out by Intervarsity Press.

For direct Scripture study, John or Philippians is good. If one of you is mature enough to lead the group through Romans, that is a good one too.
Reply:I think the book of James is a good study for new and mature Christians. There are also good study guide devotional books to go along with it. Check out a christian bookstore.
Reply:Wow, good question. You know, I'm not sure on this one but I always find lots of good ideas on such things when I'm perusing through my local Christian bookstore. Maybe give that a run?
Reply:The Gospel of John. Also, watch the movie with them if you have time. The movie is the best Gospel movie I've ever seen.
Reply:Try the sermon on the mount, it is very uplifting and there is a lot to talk about.
Reply:well, one of the gospels sounds like a good place to start...
Reply:Ruth, psalms, any of the four gospels.
Reply:If you are witnessing and you are trying to lead them to Christ, then the obvious choice is:

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

In only 18 lines, he says it all - the rest of the Gospel expands the concept that Jesus is, indeed, the Son of God!

"The Word Became Flesh

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " 16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known." (John 1:1-18)
Reply:What ... y'mean like start off with the not quite so insane stuff, then move slowly onto the ludicrous, idiotic stuff once you think they've been brainwashed enough. Wow - I didn't know that was how it's done - thanks for the insight.
