How do you study the Bible?

I would like to know how you study the Bible. I have been studying it in depth and most of my questions have been getting answered this way.

Besides Bible studies or connection groups (whatever your church might call them) How do you study it? Do you study everyday? Do you focus on one book at a time? Do you write things down or highlight your bible? Let me know!

How do you study the Bible?
HAVE A STUDY BIBLE

A study bible only, to write on pages of birth and death, events ect.

I knew that I would not know the bible until I got the time frame correct.

The time frame put everything in the place and order that it should be in.

At year 2513, O.T. 1110 years, 39 books, many write, done 443 before Christ.

Moses could not write Genesis, but could compile it 857 to 897 years after flood. Job was before Moses so that Moses had to compile this book also.

222 years after flood, Terah born. Noah died Gen.9:28,29; 350 years after fld.

205 Gen.11:32; he dies. Shem dies 502 years after flood. Gen.11:10;

------ Gen.12:4; Abraham age 75, gets Promised Land covenant and he is

427 years after the flood [ was year 1656 ]..

025 Abraham age 100 Gen.21:5; Isaac is born. 452 years after flood.

060 Isaac age 60, and heir Jacob Gen.25:26; born. 512 years after flood.

130 age of Jacob, Gen.47:9,11; with 70 in family now in Rameses Egypt at

642 years after the flood, 215 years after the Promised Land covenant.

017 Gen.47:28; Jacob dies 659 years after the flood. Joseph is age 57.

053 years life,Joseph from age 30 is governor 80 years in Egypt, Joseph dies

712 years after the flood. Ends Genesis 50:26; 185 years to Josh.24:32;

065 years, Moses born, Pharoah killing all males born in family of Abraham.

777 years after the flood, in 80 years is 215 years in Rameses Exo.12:37;

080 age of Moses at Exodus Exo.7:7; 12:40,41; Gal.3:16-18 [ 430 years law ];

857 years after flood to Exodus. Num.33:38,39; Priest Aaron age 123 dies.

040 Deut.34:7; Deut,1:3; 29:5; 34:7; Prophet Judge Moses age 120 dies.

897 years after the flood, and 40 years after the Exodus and all has the laws.

001 Josh.5:6,10,14; 14th day in New year ends 40 years after Exodus begun.

898th year after flood. Judges began in the Promised Land with Joshua.

300 years Judges 11: 26; Jair dies.

------1198 years after the flood for troubles.

------Acts 13:20; 450 after Exodus Samuel age 80, 1307 years after flood.

------1Ki.6:1; 480 years after death of Moses, 1377 years after the flood,

-------Solomon year 4, temple begun, Solomon has 36 years of 40, 1413 after

flood, year 3069 and 997 before Christ will be in Rome world Empire #6.

This is an example of the time involved in study, study makes no sense to me with knowing the time involved.

Reply:you can do whatever you want to..... i write a book of scriptures and highlight things in my bible so its up to you
Reply:I'm holding out for "God for Dummies"
Reply:I studied it for 28 years, in faith. Then for 8 years with pragmatism.

The bible makes allot more sense to me, now that I am a non believer, than when I had faith.
Reply:Too many people only see what goes along with what they want to think. So all they see is contradictions.

But Wisdom Teachings were designed to reach out to many people with many different natures and personalities.

When reading inspired writings, one should ask for Guidance.

And then when they get too Conservative. The Holy Spirit will lead them to something more Liberal. And if they get too Liberal, the Holy Spirit will lead them to something more

Conservative. As our Creator wants us to stop going to all the emotional extremes that create hatred. And have an even mind.
Reply:I am not near as organized as my pastor would like me to be. He would would say devote a certain time of the day, usually the morning before the day gets to crazy and busy. And follow a quality lesson plan.

I have 4 kids and a wife whose health is not always cooperating, so she tires easy. I'm in the military, so I usually have long hours when I'm home at all, like now I'm in Iraq. But I study what has been pressed upon me over the last 24 hours or so. There will be a sermon or a comment that will make me think about something. Even if it was totally secular I would wonder about the Biblical answer.

I mean I will go off on several different small studies in one sitting, and nothing really connected. I don't know why, but then sometimes later I'll experience something that will connect and my study will have a deeper meaning.

Being a baptist, I'm partial to the King James Bible, and I like to read about the older preachers, and writers like Spurgeon, and Moody. I have a Ryrie Study Bible that I have used for years but that is getting replaced as I write. My wife just ordered me a new bible that is being put out by Rock of Ages Prison Ministry whose President is Terry Ellis, great guy. They just released a new bible that follows the indepedent fundamental baptist doctrine. Never had one before. You can order it online, it's on their homepage if you scroll down. not in their online store. confused me for months. something to think about, hope it helps.
Reply:Read various versions of the Bible, find one with a good translation. The Harper Collins Study Bible is the best in my opinion, it has a crap load of notes on each page, and is a good translation of the original languages. Take some classes in new and old testament, read a lot of books that dissect the language of the bible. Read some of the books kept out of cannon.
Reply:I keep to just the bible, studies are good, but most are just what someone else feels you need to read. If you just read the bible straight through you aren't going to miss anything, and the holy spirit will bring to mind anything you aren't supposed to miss.
Reply:I do different things. Sometimes I might do a word study-like say the word love and look up all the verses dealing with love and spend a few days looking at that. Somedays, I might read the Psalms or read a chapter out of Proverbs a day for a month. I do a little of evrything-highlight, underline,put sermon notes in the margin, keep a journal. Find what works best for you. Pray and ask the Lord what it is He wants you to really see in His Word. And then-enjoy!
Reply:The very best way is to study it seriously with friends.

Group study is best where you discuss the topics and those who understand can help those who want to but don't.

Bringing pertinent scriptures in from other places helps the memory to work with you.

Talking with others not in your group will set the materials into your memory so you can use them.

like everything else, what you work with, becomes familiar. What you set aside gets forgotten.

A word of caution though...........Many have incorrect opinions, and they can be persuasive. Look for the truth even if it seems distasteful.
Reply:you should take a class on religions of the world so you can be a good christian just reading the bible aint gonna do it
Reply:i dont think there is a god. but i think there my be a higher power.
Reply:well u highlight what sinks in yoyour heart and meditate on it let it fill ur soul and u not going to want to put it down
Reply:I don't anymore and my life is much less complicated because of it.
Reply:How to study the Bible? The Bible is not silent on this very important topic. 1 Corinthians 2:13 gives us a clue. It tells us to "Compare spiritual things with spiritual things." In other words, the only way to arrive at truth is to allow the Bible to be its own interpreter. The Bible is not subject to any private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20. If this rule was faithfully obeyed, there would not be so many different denominations. A passage of Scripture explains another passage.

Choose a topic and then look up all the references to this topic. Let me give you an example. Lets say I choose The Kingdom of God for a topic. I would use a concordance and look up "kingdom of God" and read all the references.

Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God... " Matt.6:33. "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God." Luke 8:10. "The kingdom of God is at hand." Mark 1:15. "The kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21. "The kingdom of God is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." Romans 14:16.

It is obvious that these verses refer to the "kingdom of God" within us. By comparing these verses we get an insight into what the kingdom of God within us means. But this expression "kingdom of God" has other meanings. It is for us to examine all the references and by comparing Scripture with Scripture we may find answers to all our questions without any attempt at giving the Scriptures a private interpretation. And, of course, we must believe that the Holy Spirit is given to teach us all things and that this is the method that He uses. 1 John 2:27.

Did this help you? :)
Reply:I go to the web site below.
Reply:Studying in depth is good. Group studies can be very productive, but various groups don't always agree with each other. I use a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance to outline topical studies through related verses. I take lots of notes, underline passages. Sometimes I read aloud and record verses and comments. Later I go back through the verses while I listen to my own recordings. It is amazing what you will say while you are reading aloud. If you want to know more, you can email me.
Reply:I don't study it anymore. I used to everyday, but then when I realized it was just a crappy book, I stopped reading it.

I am now an atheist.
Reply:It's not meant to be studied, but rather to awaken. You don't need to scrutinize every verse and chapter continouously.
