How can I study the bible?

I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior and I want to understand the bible more. Unfortunately there are no Bible study groups where I leave so I got to do it alone.

Reply:80% of american belives in god or jesus, but they never go to church or read bible. you could just join them....
Reply:Comprehend it as it is. Don't take everything literally, but try and soak up as much of the goods in the Bible as possible. It will offer you wisdom. Especially proverbs. Just read a few verses once a day.





The bible does not hold all of the answers to God. Some, you will have to experience for yourself.
Reply:Purchase one with commentaries.If you are truly interested,start with the Torah (5 books of Moses).Commentaries are included in all Jewish religious books,but rarely in Christian ones.
Reply:There are many very good study Bibles on the market with explanations of each verse or words below the text of the Bible itself. I have 2 different ones and they so far agree with each other totally. Most of the things hard to grasp is the wording used during King James period and today. Some of the parables are explained also in these study Bibles.


Also I have downloaded a Bible with some very good additions that compare verses with others and have each word explained with it. It's called E-Sword and it's free on line. Go to;

Reply:Listen to preachings, attend bible classes, and ... join different religious discussions, ponder over people's comments (both comments in favours or againsts the belief) and at last, ask your own conscience which teaching is right and which arguments are just arguments given for the benefits of the speakers. I believe you have the spiritual quotient within you, which will work to guide and help you.
Reply:Simple reading it would be a good place to start.





One suggestion though, read outloud. You'll remember more of it, your mind won't wonder so much as you read aloud like it would it you read silently.
Reply:read it 10 times and then don't ask anyone to explain it to you. Make notes and look up the words that you don't know. Then look at how all this makes you feel. If you have questions please don't ask a preacher.. ask someone that has read it and knows what they are talking about, who will not pick or choose what they answer.

Reply:Get a really good one...I have the New Revised Standard Life applicat Bible which is great. Tons of footnotes to help you understand what is happening....
Reply:Read John. Then read the other 3 Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke. This will take a while. Try to study John well, it will ground you and allow the rest to make sense. Don't bother with the Old Testament until later, it will confuse you. Good luck.
Reply:Yahoo hosts a lot of groups online. I'm sure you could find one that was for beginner Bible study that would help at least guide you in the right direction. There are also many good Bible workbooks, if you wanted to go it alone. Try searching for Bible workbook at amazon.com or at a larger or religious bookstore near you.

Reply:I recomend gettin a concordance, preferably, "strong strongest bible concordance" It tells you what words mean, referance every word and were it is, and the strong has all the dates, calander, arabic and greek translations and so much more. I have one it it opens up a whole new world of understanding.

SOmetimes i pray about subject and just open the Book randomly, you would be amazed how many things were shown to me just doing this simple thing.





Also, pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding, God delights in one seeking these things.
Reply:THE Bible is a unique book. Its writers claim to be inspired by God, and its contents provide ample proof that the claim is true. (2 Timothy 3:16) Among other things, the Bible shows where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going. Surely it is a book worthy of our consideration!





Perhaps you have tried to read the Bible but have found it hard to understand. Maybe you do not know where to look to find answers to your questions. If so, you are not alone. Your situation is like that of a man who lived in the first century. He was traveling in a chariot, going from Jerusalem to his native country, Ethiopia. This Ethiopian official was reading aloud from the prophetic Bible book of Isaiah, written more than seven hundred years earlier.





Suddenly, he was addressed by a man running alongside the chariot. The man was Philip, a disciple of Jesus, and he asked the Ethiopian: "Do you actually know what you are reading?" The Ethiopian replied: "Really, how could I ever do so, unless someone guided me?" He then invited Philip into the chariot. Philip explained the meaning of the passage the man had been reading and went on to declare to him "the good news about Jesus."—Acts 8:30-35.





Just as Philip helped that Ethiopian to understand God's Word long ago, Jehovah's Witnesses help people to understand the Bible today. They would be happy to help you too. Usually, it is best to study the Bible systematically, beginning with basic Scriptural teachings. (Hebrews 6:1) As you progress, you will be able to take in what the apostle Paul called "solid food"—that is, deeper truths. (Hebrews 5:14) Although it is the Bible that you are studying, other publications—Bible study aids—can help you to locate and understand Bible passages on a variety of subjects.





A study can usually be arranged at a time and place that is convenient for you. Some even study over the telephone. The study is not held in a classroom setting; it is a private arrangement tailored to your personal circumstances, including your background and education. You do not have to pay for such a Bible study. (Matthew 10:8) There are no exams, and you will not be made to feel embarrassed. Your questions will be answered, and you will learn how to draw close to God. Why, though, should you study the Bible? Consider some reasons why a study of the Bible can add joy to your life.
Reply:I would start by reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) then you can ask questions here, or to other christians. If I have trouble with a verse I type it in google and there is usually a lot of help there.
Reply:U are lucky. U get to study with the author Himself. Go to a quite place and just ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and your surroundings with His presence and to teach you the word. Then continue to read whatever u are lead to. Each time u read it, He will reveal more and more to you.

Reply:The best way is to use a bible dictionary and a Hebrew/ Greek translation of the bible to get a clearer picture of the oringinal words in thier languages and the proper meanings of them.
Reply:First. Prayerfully read it with the purpose of God revealing Himself to you. Start in the new testament. When I read it the first time cover to cover. I switched between the new and old testament. Now, I mostly read in the new testament, but I focus on one chapter a day. I read it as many times as I can in a day. There are many study bibles out there. There has GOT to be a bible study in your area. Keep looking. Pray and it will happen. I don't usually guarantee a posative answer to prayer, but I know that God ALWAYS provides a way to know Him.
