What is bible study all about?

were you ever in a bible study group at your church or join bsf? and why do they separate the men/women, unless it's a class for young adults? share your experience, thanx.

What is bible study all about?
I am currently doing a Bible study at my church. Typically they separate classes between men and women because that's the way it is best most of the time. Example..

When women are in a Bible study together, it gives them a chance to develop friendships with each other and to get to know one another. Women seem to be more apt to share things with each other when they are in a group together by themselves. They are more open with each other about things going on in their lives, etc. The same goes with men. Men tend to be a lot more open in a room full of other men than they do when women are present in the room.

Hope this helps. :)
Reply:Yes. I have been in a bible study for, oh, about ten years now. It's a ladies' bible study. Men have their own bible study. I don't think there's anything "sexist" about the genders being separate for bible study, if you know what I mean (other nights there are men and women together for bible studies)...I just like it that I'm amongst women studying the bible. I am very fortunate in that I attend what is one of the finest bible teaching churches around. It has transformed my life, studying the word of God. We take one book a year and do lessons on it, starting out in a large group for a lecture on that week's part of the chapter or whatever, and then breaking into small groups to discuss it. I feel like one of the most fortunate people on earth to know what I know about His word.

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God". It's all about knowing Christ, knowing the promises of God, and knowing who you are in Jesus. A beautiful life.
Reply:Hello

I have been in church for years, The only reason i know is they divide the people so that people in the same age group can share there own thoughts on the question at hand. You know that saying 2 heads are better then 1, well it is the same that there be 5 or 10 heads are better then the number smaller. People of the same age group think allot alike

My best answer.
Reply:Once or twice. It was always a good learning experience, especially regarding when the scriptures were written and who wrote it and how they were inspired.

I never noticed that men and women were separated. Now that you mention it, they were at the Christian one, but not the Catholic one, which is kind of weird, if you ask me.

I don't remember much. The Catholic group used the bible as part of their evening, while the Christian group just talked about one certain passage all evening.

The Catholic group was solemn and deep, while the Christian group was perky and chatty.
Reply:Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) is an organization which coordinates Bible study groups around the country. At one time there were some combined men+women's classes, but that may have changed. MOST of their groups were divided by sex, which is OK, though, I like to have BOTH sexes represented AND HEARD in Bible study.

I feel that BALANCE helps understand better what is going on. Men and women THINK DIFFERENTLY, and BOTH points of view are valuable.

Bible study itself: Regardless of format, there are things we can learn and apply as we try to be the person God made us to be. I have been involved in Bible studies on almost every level imaginable, from university and seminary courses using the original languages to teaching children's classes. All are valuable, but all are not for everyone. Look for a class or program that meets you where you are and leads you where you want to go.
