I have been asked to lead a bible study for the teen girls at our church. I have chosen to use Priceless by Chandra Peele. Does anybody have any ideas, guidlines, or methods of how to lead/teach in an effective way? What would you do and how would you do it?
Priceless by Chandra Peele teen girl bible study?
When I was a sunday school teacher, I found the teenagers were the hardest to work with. I wouldn't start right way with Priceless. It's good yes and needs to be taught. It as well depends on what these teens really know. What I had to do, was get to know what the teens knew, did they know Jesus or was it something they are hanging on to from being taught it all there life. Then once you get them to open up ; then u will know where to start. For example, I had to start with the ten commandments and what they really meant and went from there. Alot of the teens I taught wasn't really sure if there was a God or how they were suppose to act. Was worried about being judge and not being able to explain theirselves. Anyways if you are not sure where to start get to know the teen girls, and see if they are ready to start with priceless right away.. God Bless you with this and I will keep you in my prayers that u will find the answer.
Reply:silly suggestion.
take a deep breath.
ready?
how about..
:gasp::
a bible.
HOLY CRAP WHAT A CONCEPT!!
seriously. .... you said bible study. so... is taking a bible and studying it not good enough?
I looked up what you referrred to... and while I'm all for promoting healthy views of dressing and dating and waiting to have sex and all... there are immensely healthier ways to do it than that.
the blurb I found said:
"This six-week interactive Bible study helps teen girls know that they are priceless—and that their best self is found in relationship with Jesus. Girls today cope with relentless pressure to believe that looks are all that matter and that sex is casual. They need to know that they are priceless! This study focuses on beauty, dressing with self-respect, confidence, dating God’s way, and understanding the real importance of sex. Written in a lively voice, Priceless includes personal stories about real Christian girls, lots of Scripture interaction, gab sessions with the author, memorization exercises, and space for journaling. seriously... thats just... ugh. I mean its good intent but two big problems.
1) "bible study" should be ... studying... the... bible... I suggest starting on page one, you know, "in the beginning.." ... really, its not that hard. I studied it when I was like 12...
2) teaching principles and good choices are a much better method of making healthy choices than indoctrination.
I mean if they change their beleifs later, or become disillusioned with christianity... poof, all that self respect and stuff goes out the window. if its based on decency, rational human existance, and so on, then poof! it stays!
Reply:just read and understand it at your fullness. THen share what you understand. If its hard for you, contact the person who assigned you.
Reply:In a Bible study just use the Bible. You can't go wrong.
