Old Testament Bible Study?

I am looking for a thorough, historical Bible study on the Old Testament. I've read through most of it but have been unable to retain much of it because there's so much history. I need something that helps me connect the people, know the lands, etc. Does you have a suggestion on a study?

This may not be what you've asked for, but I found it very helpful in my study of the Old Testament. Bruce Fieler's book and dvd "Walking the Bible. He seeks to find the places of the Bible in modern day lands. His writing opens my mind to what it may have been like to wander in the desert 40 years, live as slaves in Egypt, and so on. It's well worth reading. The dvd shows you the places. It's like making a new connection to the scriptures to see the physical property on which Abraham walked. Consider watching it. Your local library should be able to get both of these for you. If not Amazon has them.
Reply:There's a book called Survey of the Old Testament by Paul N. Benware. It's easy reading with lots of photos of the places it discusses.
Reply:J Vernon McGee's 5-year Through the Bible radio program is available at http://www.thruthebible.org/. He was a profound bible scholar and interesting preacher because he discussed obscure historical information you don't usually hear elsewhere. However, his theology is pretty bland mainstream Christian seminary grist and I think he tended to dodge anything controversial. Still, it might be what you're looking for.

Reply:you better buy a book on world history if you are inclined to know the history of the whole world. the old testament of the bible is the teachings of God , not history
